Firstly, please note that we don’t take any commission from our link ups with local businesses. We have formed partnerships with these groups to support each other with amazing services and experiences. Many of these will be able to offer bespoke experiences. Reach out to us for more info or with your own wishes.

Cycling

Firstly, we work with Heaven Bikes who will deliver bikes direct to you at our lodges. With this in mind, you can enjoy the amazing scenic roads and trails around the area without having to drive anywhere first. There is a good choice including E-bikes and also bikes for children. There are proper MTB trails at Balblair (about 5 miles away) where there are purpose designed trails. Not only easy blue runs, but also black runs are here. This guide may help. We can also help with some ideas of where to cycle. Heaven Bikes also do paddle board hire and Chris who runs the outfit is an excellent teacher.

Shooting

The Highland Shooting Centre in nearby Altass (5 minute drive) offers a wide range of experiences. Learn about the ecology of the highland estates as well as how important the role of game keeping is. As well as experiences of a couple of hours, there can be whole day excursions – the sky is the limit. They operate all year round, flexing with the seasons consequently maximising what is on offer. In addition to working bespoke experiences, they cater well for families with experiences for children from 8 years and up. Finally, they’ll make you very comfortable even if you have never handled a gun before, with safety being paramount. Please contact us directly and we’ll help sort out any experience with the Highland Shooting Centre.

Canoeing and Paddleboarding

Next, we recommend Go Wild Highlands who run half day open canoe trips on the Kyle of Sutherland. The route heads up stream to the confluence of the Kyle, and rivers Oykel and Cassley. As well as a stop on a small island, it includes a quick cuppa. We would thoroughly recommend one of these trips to add some special moments to your holiday. Ian, who used to be a Ranger in the county will ensure you have an unforgettable experience. For paddle board hire, we would recommend Heaven Bikes who also do great teaching sessions. Also, if you fancy a trip over to the west coast then try Assynt paddleboard hire. They cover some outstanding areas such as Lochinver, Achmelvich, Clachtoll and Clashnessie.

Whisky Tours

We are partnered with KS Travel where Kevin runs specialist Whisky Tours. As a result of his extensive experience working in the industry he makes a brilliant guide. He tailors tours to your budget – whichever you choose you’ll have an amazing time also experiencing the tastes of widely different local distilleries. He can collect you straight from the lodges for an amazing day out. His knowledge is incredible and you’ll be left with fantastic memories of your holiday. Furthermore, why not book us for an afternoon tea on your return?

Night Time Safari

For guests visiting us outside of the summer, when it’s not dark, there’s opportunity to experience wildlife in a different ‘light’ at night. Using high tech heat seeking equipment located on the roof of 4×4 and a linked screen it’s amazing what you can see. We would put you in touch with Connell Outdoor Pursuits who also offer other experiences.

Fishing

Finally, there is lots of fishing in the area with the River Cassley being one of the prettiest locations to enjoy a day of fishing. There is a 2.5 mile stretch of river on the Glenrossal estate where rods are available. On order to save disappointment you’ll need to book in advance. We can also help you get a day ticket for fishing on the River Shin which is super close to us. If wishing to fish on the Shin, there there isn’t the opportunity to practice in a quiet space like on the Glenrossal estate. With this in mind, you’ll need to know what you’re doing.
